What is it all about?

PRISMA was established to promote psychological well-being and prevent psychological distress in the university student population with a program of research interventions, enhancement of existing counseling services, awareness raising and training aimed at the entire academic community.

Who does it involve?

The project is coordinated by the University of Ferrara and involves the University Sassari, the Polytechnic University of Milan, the Catholic University of Milan, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, the Ca' Foscari University of Venice, the University of Parma and the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice.

The involvement of the University of Genoa is headed by the Psychological Counseling Service "Insieme," which has seen since 2018 the collaboration between the Department of Education Sciences and the University's Orientation Service. Also participating in the project are the Teaching Innovation Sector, the Psychiatry Service, the Game Research Center and the Equal Opportunities Committee.

The project is funded by the Ministry of University and Research under the PROBEN project (Notice No. 1159 of 07/23/2023).

What are the goals?

Analysis and understanding of the phenomenon. The research aims to map the psychophysical health status of the student community, identifying main risk and protective factors related to psychological distress.

Information, training and awareness raising. The activities aim to expand knowledge and skills of the entire academic community so that it recognizes signs of distress and promotes wellness and inclusion activities, including in teaching practice and service delivery. For the student population, the training aims to give tools to promote and protect their well-being, both at the individual level and in its relational dimension. Activities are Shared with the PRISMA network, in a synergistic and collaborative approach.

Strengthening Psychological Counseling. Staff dedicated to the counseling support is expanded for greater accessibility and timeliness of intervention. Periodically, the effectiveness of the services offered will be evaluated in order to adapt initiatives to emerging needs.

Promotion of positive practices and a culture of psychophysical well-being. In the medium to long term, the project aspires to establish a replicable model of training and support that promotes more sensitive and aware academic communities regarding issues of psychophysical well-being and the recognition of emotional and psychological distress.
